James Puls Sr., 65, of Grinnell died of emphysema Sunday at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Poweshiek County, with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Puls lived in the Grinnell area all his life and was a retired farmer and Army veteran of the Korean War. he had been a member of teh Lutheran Church, Grinnell American Legion and Eagles and Masonic lodges.

Surviving are his wife, Sybil; three sons, Jim, Dale and Gary, all of Grinnell; two daughters, Shirley Puls of Cedar Rapids and Linda Baumgartner of Cedar Falls; a sister, Wilma Tharp of Marion; and five grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Grinnell regional Medical Center Home Health. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1994
