Vega Alice Tharp, 88, of Grinnell died of a heart ailment Thursday at home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Smith Funeral Home, with burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Tharp, a retired teacher, was born in Tama County and moved to Grinnell in 1943. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge.

Among survivors are two sons, Lester of Grinnell and Roger of Big Sandy, Texas; a daughter, Joyce Estal of Oskaloosa; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. today at noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will meet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, December 1994
