The Montezuma Republican, June 28, 1945. Obituary -- Sam JOHNSTON. Sam JOHNSTON, long-time resident of Montezuma, passed away at his home in Rubio June 12. He was born February 22, 1885, and spent his life in the home of his grandmother, Eliza JOHNSTON until her death. He was married in 1928 and lived on his little farm south of Montezuma and moved to Rubio fifteen years ago to a little farm east of town where he was living at the time of his death. He was afflicted in 1915 and could find no help for his malady but was very patient and never complained. He had a host of friends who enjoyed visiting with him. He leaves his wife, Marie, and a number of cousins. Funeral services were held at Richland Saturday, June 16. Mr. and Mrs. Paul REMPP, Mr. and Mrs. Frank BRUNS of Deep River and Mrs. Ella BAUGHMAN of Grinnell, attended the funeral.
