CONDUCT RITES FOR MRS. JAY P. MANATT

Funeral services for Mrs. Jay P. Manatt, 79, who died suddenly at her home in Brooklyn Monday afternoon, were held Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock at First United Presbyterian Church. The Rev. G.H. Hulsebus of Fort Dodge, formerly of Brooklyn, officiated. Organist was Mrs. Jack Ramsey of Montezuma.
Interment was in I.O.O.F. cemetery with Bruce Miller, Lawrence Foster, Lester Haueresperger, Andrew Calderwood, Hugh Montgomery and Keith Berckhan serving as pallbearers. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Korns and Mrs. Ramona Montegomery.

Edith Mae Wheeler, daughter of Samuel B. and Mary Jane Ports Wheeler, was born July 8, 1884, on a farm southeast of Carnforth and died June 29, 1964. She had lived her entire life in Poweshiek County.
She was married to Jay P. Manatt February 9, 1902, and the couple farmed for several years before moving into Brooklyn in 1919. Two children were born to the couple. Harold, who preceded his mother in death, and Mrs. Ed (Nina) Bartachek of Brooklyn.
Mrs. Manatt was a member of the Presbyterian Church and United Presbyterian women’s organization for many years. Since observing their golden wedding anniversary in 1952, the couple had been active members of the Golden Wedding Club.
Survivors include her husband; her daughter; two grandchildren, Mrs. James L. (Sylvia) Glass of Brooklyn and Larry Manatt of Los Angeles, Calif.; 15 great-grandchildren and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harold Manatt of Los Angeles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, six brothers and six sisters.
