RITES HELD MONDAY FOR JAY P. MANATT

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the United Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn for Jay P. Manatt, 86. Mr. Manatt died Saturday at Friendship Manor, Grinnell, where he had been a resident for the past two years.

Rev. George Roquet officiated at the rites, with burial at the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Brooklyn. Pallbearers were G. J. (Junie) Manatt, Gene Bartachek, Keith Berckhan, Hugh Montgomery, Lawrence Foster and Lyle Nesselroad. Mrs. Fred Bartachek was organist and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Korns and Mr. and Mrs. John Edelen were flower attendants.

Jay Price Manatt was born Jan. 7, 1882 and spent his entire life in Poweshiek County. He was united in marriage to Edith Wheeler in 1902. Two children were born to the couple, Harold and Nina, Mrs. Ed Bartachek.

Mr. Manatt farmed until moving to Brooklyn in 1919 where he operated a produce business for several years. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church for 42 years and was custodian before his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, Harold; four brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Ed (Nina) Bartachek of Brooklyn; two grandchildren, Sylvia, Mrs. James Glass of Brooklyn, and Larry Manatt of Los Angeles; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harold Manatt of Hesperia, Calif.; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
