A memorial service for Genevieve Manatt, 93, was held June 6 at Englewood Park Cemetery in Englewood, Calif. She died May 21, 1998, at a hospital in Los Alamitos, Calif.

Genevieve Johnston was born May 4, 1905, in Chelsea, the daughter of William and Mary Robertson Johnston. She attended high school in Brooklyn and graduated in the class of 1924.

After their son was raised, she worked for many years for Sears. Her husband, Harold, died June 29, 1960, and Genevieve moved to Hesperia, Calif., in 1963. She lived there until 1992, when she moved to a retirement apartment in Garden Grove, Calif., near her son’s family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her brothers, Charlie, Harlan, Frank, Eddie, Roy and Robert; her sisters, Grace, Bertha, Margaret, Bessie, Callie, Minnie and Martha.

She is survived by a son, Larry, and his wife, Betty, of Seal Beach, Calif.; seven grandsons, five granddaughters, 22 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, all of them living in the southern California area; and nieces and nephews in the Chelsea area, and one niece, Sylvia Glass, at Brooklyn.
