SAVED FROM DEATH
BY FAITHFUL DOG

Aroused from slumber by the barking of the family dog, Mrs. J. Burns, pressing her little son to her bosom and leading her little girls fought her way out of her burning house near Deep River only two minutes before the roof crashed in. Mr. Burns and the five boys also escaped. The house was entirely destroyed. The family lived on the James McIlrath farm about three quarters of a mile northwest of the Chambers bridge on the east side of the Iowa river. The Burns family have been kindly cared for by neighbors.
