COUPLE FROM GRINNELL HURT IN ACCIDENT

Ralph Tegeler Has Severe Face Injuries As Result Of Crash

Ralph G. Tegeler of Grinnell is in Mercy hospital at Anamosa as a result of a head-on collision 4 1/2 miles west of that city on Christmas eve. Mrs. Tegeler was dismissed from the hospital Saturday.

Mr. Tegeler, who is employed here in the J.C. Penney Co. store, received facial injuries, a broken nose, broken jaw, eye injury, and severe scalp lacerations. His cheek bone was broken in three places. Mrs. Tegeler received painful cuts and bruises on her face, head and knees.

Mrs. Edward Burke, Jr., of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday of a crushed chest, fractured pelvis and other injuries received in the accident.

Sheriff Henry Eichhorn of Jones county said Mrs. Burke and her husband were bound westward toward Cedar Rapids when their car and a machine driven by Edward Reiter of Cascade, Mrs. Tegeler's brother, collided at a junction. Mr. and Mrs. Tegeler and Richard Kurt, Cascade, and Melvin O'Shea, Monticello, were in the car with Mr. Reiter.

Mr. and Mrs. Tegeler had gone to Cedar Rapids by bus and planned to spend Christmas eve at Cascade with her parents and Christmas day at Dyersville with his parents. They were en route to Cascade with their Christmas presents when the accident occurred.
