No. 6 TO BE DEDICATED AS G.A.R. HIGHWAY

Miss Amy Noll, former Grinnellian, who is now state secretary for the G.A.R. with headquarters in Des Moines, is promoting a ceremony to dedicate Highway No. 6 across Iowa as the Grand Army of the Republic highway. The last legislature approved an act to designate the road as the G.A.R. highway and the state highway commission was directed to arrange for suitable markers.

The highway has been given the G.A.R. name by most of the states through which it passes on its way from Cape Cod in Massachusetts to Los Angeles. Only Pennsylvania, Nevada and Utah have failed to take action.

Miss Noll, whose father, the late Judge T.J. Noll of Grinnell, was state commander of the G.A.R. at the time of his death, hopes that the dedication may be held soon so that Ebenezer McMurray of Iowa City may be able to take part. Mr. McMurray, one of the few remaining Civil War veterans in the state, lives in Iowa City, through which No. 6 passes.
