Grinnell (IA) Register

MARRIED FIFTY-SIX YEARS.

Although no formal celebration attended the event, the fifty-sixth anniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Reavis which occurred Wednesday, was thoroughly enjoyed by them and their family of children. The day was spent quietly at their home on South Broad street, for the family recently sustained the tragic loss of two grandchildren, the son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Reavis, of Tama, who died about twenty-four hours apart during the spinal meningitis epidemic there a few weeks ago, and for that reason a celebration was not considered at this time.

Mr. Reavis came to this county in 1880 and for a number of years was a successful farmer. The family moved to Grinnell sixteen years ago and since have been among our best citizens. Mr. Reavis looks forward to celebrating his eightieth birthday on May 30 of this year and Mrs. Reavis will be seventy-five on June 20th.

Mr. and Mrs. Reavis have eight children living. They are Elisha Reavis, of Malcom; Grant, living southeast of town; Mrs. Llewellyn Beatty, of Shelbina, Mo., Mrs. Mollie Rayl, whose home is southwest of Grinnell; Andy Reavis, of Elk River, Minn.; Joe Reavis, of Tama; Mrs. Charles Bauerle, who resides in Illinois, and Turner Reavis, of Grinnell.
