The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Reavis was celebrated at their home in Grinnell.

On February 2, 1865, at the close of the civil war, when it was almost impossible to obtain food or clothing, J.W. Reavis and Sarah C. Comer, were united in marriage in Yodkin county, North Carolina. To this union were born 10 children, 2 of whom died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Reavis lived in Yodkin county, North Carolina till 1880, when they came to Iowa and settled in Poweshiek county, living one year in Searsboro, one on the Peter Schmidt farm north of Searsboro, six years on the Simon Watson farm and fifteen on their own farm at Blue Point. In 1902 they retired from farm life to their present home in Grinnell.

In all, there are eight children and their companions, 27 living grandchildren and one grandson by marriage.

Mr. Reavis will soon be 74 years of age and Mrs. Reavis 70, and may yet enjoy many more wedding anniversaries.
