One more thought on Elda May and her birth. In the 1880 census, there is a HOUGAS family living in Mills Co., Iowa, who has a son named Almon. Since Elda M. named one of her sons Almon, I wonder if she was a daughter of the following:

Dan'l Hougas, age 40, b. IL, parents born Norway
Mary E. Hougas, age 38, b. IL
Almon D. Hougas, age 19, b. IA
Tho. A. Hougas, age 16, b. IA
Blanch Hougas, age 14, b. IA
Bertha Hougas, age 11, b. IA

Perhaps Elda M. was born after the 1880 census to this family? It's a thought.
