Obituary
Mary E. Hogan-Sinclair
Mary E. Hogan was born Nov 10, 1829, in the state of Indiana; departed this life at the home of her son, Will Sinclair, who resides two miles northwest of Oakland, Ia., June 27, 1903, aged 73 years, 7 months and 15 days. She was united in marriage to Robert A. Sinclair, April 13, 1854, at Galesburg, Illinois. The union was blessed with 10 children, 3 boys and 7 girls – 6 of whom are living. Those present at the funeral were Mrs. A. Greenlee, of Manning, Ia; Mrs. Margie Miller, of Harlan, Ia; Mrs. Mattie Birney, of Hancock, Ia; Mrs. Jessie Pilling, of Council Bluffs, Ia; and Will Sinclair, of Oakland. Elbert Sinclair, of Chesterville, Texas, was unable to be present.
Sister Sinclaire in early life gave her heart to Jesus, uniting with the Baptist church. At the time of her death she was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal church of Council Bluffs. She was a consistent Christian, ever living in the hope of Eternal life. Her life was truly one of unselfishness, always thinking more of others than self. She was one that found delight in God’s word, and loved the songs of Zion. In her last moments she caught a glimpse of the heavenly glory, speaking of those things revealed by John in the book of Revelation, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord. They rest from their labors and their works do follow them.” The bereaved children have the sympathy of all in their sorrow. Appropriated services were held at the home, Monday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, conducted by P. H. Green. The remains of Sister Sinclair were taken on the train Tuesday morning to Weston, Ia., to be laid by the side of her husband in the Gregg cemetery to await the resurrection of God’s saints.
