Obituary: John O. Konz

John O. Konz, age 85, of Minden, Iowa, passed away May 6, 2012, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

He was born August 7, 1926, in Lindsay, Neb., to the late Michael and Elizabeth (Keimig) Konz. He married Irene M. Ausdemore on May 7, 1947. Together they farmed and raised 11 children in the Neola/Minden area. John was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Neola; Eucharistic Minister; 4th Degree Knight of Columbus; member of the Farm Bureau, where he served on the board for 3 years; 4H Club leader; St. Joseph School Board of Education, St. Patrick's Pastoral Council; West Fair Committee; church farm committee; Meals on Wheels and St. Albert High School Fundraiser Committee.

In addition to his parents; John was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Irene Konz, in 1996; son, Gerald Konz, in 2011; grandsons, Joseph and Barry Konz; great grandson, Kyle Konz; 6 siblings.

John is survived by his wife of 15 years, Margaret (Zimmerman-Kowalczyk) Konz, of Minden; 10 children, Robert (Leona) Konz, of Shelby, Iowa, William (Kris) Konz, of Red Oak, Iowa, Marilyn (Dennis) Jipsen, of Lewis, Iowa, Rosemary Konz of Phoenix, Ariz., Shirley (Tim) Cannon, of Omaha, Neb., Kay Konz, of Lincoln, Neb., Colleen (Greg) Meng, of Solon, Iowa, Vicki (Vince) Bjorling, of Scottsbluff, Neb., Julie (Jeff) Achenbaugh, of Treynor, Iowa, Daniel (Jennifer) Konz, of Harlan, Iowa; 25 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren; stepchildren, Stanley (Angela) Kowalczyk, of West Des Moines, Iowa, Therese (Joseph) Cofer, of Charlotte, N.C., Dave (Brandi) Kowalczyk, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 10 step grandchildren; sister, Irene Lustgraaf, of Council Bluffs; brother, Ervin Konz, of Minden, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Neola.

Funeral Mass, Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., in St. Patrick's Church, Neola with Rev. Raphael Masabakhwa as the celebrant.

Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery with a lunch following at the parish hall.

Memorials are suggested to the church, St. Albert Schools or the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
