Obituary: Jack J. Barrier

Jack J. Barrier, age 81, of Council Bluffs, passed away April 28, 2012, at his home.

He was born November 19, 1930, in Neola, Iowa, to the late Max and Edna (Morgan) Barrier. He graduated from Neola High School in 1950. Jack served for 9 ½ years in the Iowa National Guard, 168th Infantry, 34th Red Bull Division as a rifleman. He married Patricia Myers on February 3, 1950, and to this union, son, Michael David Barrier was born. Jack was a heavy equipment mechanic for a Caterpillar dealership and for Operating Engineers Local #571. He moved his family to Council Bluffs in 1960 and due to health problems, he was forced into retirement at age 58. Always a sportsman, Jack played softball and independent basketball well into his thirties. Jack was a member of Neola Presbyterian Church; Bluff City Masonic Lodge #71, where he was a 50 plus year member; avid gun collector; and a longtime member of the NRA.

In addition to his parents; Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Wendell Barrier; an infant sister; and sister, Helen Lewis.

Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Barrier; son, Michael D. (Caralyn) Barrier, all of Council Bluffs; brothers, Jim Barrier, of Council Bluffs, Bill (Connie) Barrier, of Neola; nieces and nephews.

Masonic Service conducted by Bluff City Masonic Lodge #71, Tuesday, 6 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel.

Funeral service, Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Neola Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dean Sparr, pastor will officiate.

Interment Neola Township Cemetery with a lunch following at the church.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice .
