Leslie William Harman

Les Harman, 45, Spencer, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at his home.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 10:30 a.m., at First Congregational Church, Spencer, with Revs. Tom and Wendy Van Tassell officiating.

Visitation will begin Sunday at 1 p.m. with the family present from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday and Monday evening.

Casket bearers will be Gary Ausdemore, Jeff Bowker, George Wigen, Adam Harman, Bruce Steven, Duane Davis and Tim Ireland.

Warner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be designated to Spencer High School Athletic Department or the First Congregational Church of Spencer.

A second funeral will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m., at the Presbyterian Church in Neola. Visitation is at the church on Tuesday evening, from 4-8 p.m. Memorials may be designated for the Presbyterian Church of Neola.

Burial will be at the Neola Cemetery, Neola, with the Meyer Funeral Home of Council Bluffs in charge of arrangements.

Leslie William Harman, the son of Francis and Ilo Jessen Harman, was born June 6, 1952, in Council Bluffs. He received his education and graduated from Tri-Center High School. He received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Northwest Missouri State College at Maryville, Mo.

On Jun 1, 1974, he married Beverly Ann Killpack in Neola. Following their marriage, they lived in Omaha, Neb., for two years before moving to Denison where they lived for eight years and he taught school in Dow City. They then moved to Moorhead where he was a high school Principal for three years. They moved to Lakeview-Auburn School District for six years, and in 1993, they moved to Spencer where he was a guidance counselor at Spencer High School.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Spencer and had also coached for the traveling basketball and softball teams.

Mr. Harman was preceded in death by his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Eliza Lynn "Ellie" and Sara Ann, both at home; his parents Francis and Ilo Harman of Neola; one brother, Jeff Harman and his wife, Tami, of Minden; and one sister, Chris Strickland and her husband, Jason, of Madisonville, Tenn.
