John "Ray" Stinn

John "Ray" Stinn, age 89, of Neola, Iowa, passed away on Saturday afternoon, at his home, June 25, 2011, after a long fought battle with cancer.

He was born in Council Bluffs, on September 18th, 1921, to the late Irene (Heggarty) Stinn and John C. Stinn. Ray graduated from St. Joseph School in Neola. He attended Dogget Radio School in Boulder, Colo. He also received an electrical degree from the International correspondence school in Scranton, Pa. Ray served in the armed forces for four years serving the majority of time in Italy, with communications. He spent 14 years in the National Guard, with the 168th Infantry, Red Bull Division. He married Loretta "Toots" (McDonald) Stinn on August 30, 1948, in Neola, with which they were blessed with four children. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Neola.

Ray was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruthann (Stinn) McDonald, Rosemary "Rosie" (Stinn) McDonald and Julia, and Judy (Stinn) Thielen; and one granddaughter, Mackenzie Ray Jozsa.

He is survived by wife, Loretta C. (McDonald) Stinn, of 62 years, of Neola; son, Gayle P. (Michelene) Stinn, of Wheaton, Ill.; daughters, Cynthia A. (George) Gross, of Walnut, Iowa, Cheryl M. (Dennis) Boyer, of Council Bluffs, and Carol L. (Alex) Jozsa, of Lincoln Neb. Ray is survived by his grandchildren, Chad A. Gross, of Council Bluffs, Adam M. (Sara) Stinn, of St. Louis, Mo. and Judd R. Gross, of Walnut, Iowa, Angela M. Boyer, of Omaha, Neb., Matthew P. (Stefanie) Gross, of Atlantic, Iowa, Abigail M. Stinn, of Ocean Beach Miss., and Amanda L. (Joe) Boyer-Finelli, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; step grandchildren, Cortnie Jozsa, of Kansas City, Mo., Jennifer (Jose) Jozsa-Lopez, of Kansas City, and Jared (Jessie) Jozsa, of Lincoln Neb. Ray has one great grandchild, Gage M. Gross, of Atlantic. He also has 3 step great grandchildren. Ray had a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at St. Patrick's Parish, in Neola, on Tuesday evening, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral to be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at St. Patrick's Parish, Neola. Service at 10:30 a.m. Luncheon following the services at the Parish Hall, in Neola.
