Joann Marie Verpoorten, age 83, longtime Persia and Neola, Iowa resident, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at Amelia House in Council Bluffs.

Joann was born February 4, 1928, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Michael and Opal McCune Kirlin, and was united in marriage to Donald O. Verpoorten on November 15, 1947. She worked as a LPN in a Convalescent Home and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Neola.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Donald on March 2, 2004; brothers, James, Robert and Joseph Kirlin.

Survivors include daughter, Donna Naber and husband, Gary, of Omaha, Neb.; sons, Dannie and wife, Rose, of Council Bluffs, Dennis, of Hope Mills, N.C.; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.

Visitation begins Thursday, 5 p.m., with a Rosary recitation at 6 p.m., at St. Patrick's Church, Neola. Funeral Mass Friday, 10 a.m., also at church.

Interment Neola Township Cemetery with a luncheon to follow back at Church. Memorials to St. Jude Hospital or American Cancer Society.
