Mass of Christian burial for Donald Julius Hansen Jr., 68, of Council Bluffs will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church with the Rev. Chuck Kottas officiating.

Mr. Hansen died May 21 at home.

He was born March 30, 1935, in Council Bluffs to Donald and Maxine Hansen Sr. He graduated from Franklin grade school and Thomas Jefferson High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a master's degree from Iowa State University. He taught in Houston for six years and taught social studies at Thomas Jefferson High School for 36 years. He was the first alumni from T.J. to teach there. He also served as cheerleader and pom pom sponsor. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, 4th degree Knight of Columbus, Chalice Club, Council Bluffs Optimist Club and Retired Teachers Association. He started the night school program for Council Bluffs Schools and co-wrote the first teachers contract for the teachers union. He also served as president of the Council Bluffs Teachers Association.

Mr. Hansen and his wife, Sandra (Waldron), were married 46 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include daughter, Noel Stevens, and husband, Scott, of Omaha; two sons, Michael and wife, Kelly, of Cincinnati and Patrick and wife, Elizabeth, of Ithica, N.Y.; foster daughter, Jill Fulfs of Council Bluffs; Creighton daughter, Dr. Denise Snow, of Rochester, Minn.; four grandchildren; sister, Laura Hansen, of San Antonio; mother, Maxine Hansen, of Bellevue, Neb.; two brothers, Robert and wife, Linda, of Bellevue, Neb., and Fred and wife, Rita, of Tulsa, Okla; two nephews and two nieces.

Christian wake service will be tonight at 7 followed by family visitation until 8:30 at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery followed by a luncheon at St. Albert High School. Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be offered to Donald J. Hansen Jr. Scholarship Fund.
