Robert J. Fischer, age 83, of Council Bluffs, passed away October 6, 2010, at his home.

Bob was born January 6, 1927, in Neola, Iowa, to the late Christian P. and Anastasia (Ryan) Fischer. He graduated from Neola St. Joseph High School in 1945 and served his country in the U.S. Army-Air Corps from 1945-1947. Bob moved to Council Bluffs in 1949 and worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a switchman for 30 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. patrick’s Catholic Church and the Neola American Legion Post #330.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille Ann Fischer; and brother, Frank Fischer.

Bob is survived by his twin children, Diane Brinker, of Omaha and Dennis (Lettie) Fischer, of Panama; grandchildren, Rachel Thompson and Whitney Brinker; great grandchildren, Olivia and Matthew; sisters, Virginia Simon, of San Jose, Calif., Mary C. Schnitker, of Council Bluffs; brothers, Harold (Hiroko) Fischer, of Florey, Australia, Fr. Eugene Fischer, of Chula Vista, Calif., Richard (Jean) Fischer, Donald (Margaret) Fischer, all of Neola, Iowa; special friend, Bernie Kovatch, of Council Bluffs; many nieces
and nephews.

Wake service, Monday, 6 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m., at the Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, in Council Bluffs. A luncheon will immediately follow in the parish hall.

Interment, Tuesday, 2 p.m., in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Neola, Iowa, with military rites tendered by the Neola American Legion Post #330. Memorials to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Council Bluffs or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Neola, Iowa preferred.
