STOCKTON, Calif. - Graveside memorial services for Nathan E. "Ned" Derby, 85, of Stockton, Calif., were held Monday, May 19, in Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, Calif.

Mr. Derby died May 13 at home.

He was born in Avoca. He previously lived in Avoca and Council Bluffs, moving to Stockton in 1956. He served in World War II with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was an electrician for Ace Armature and Motor Shop until his retirement. While in Council Bluffs he worked for Ballenger Automotive. He was a member of Karl Ross American Legion Post, Luneta Post No. 52 VFW, past president of Pearl Harbor Survivors, past commander of Lodi Post No. 767 VFW and current vice president of Lincoln Fire Board. He was also past president of Oak Park Senior Center.

Mr. Derby and his wife, Vivian, were married 58 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include daughter, Jackie Herrera, and husband, Ruben, of Las Vegas, N.M.; son, Jim Derby, and his wife, Olga, and grandson James Derby of Stockton; sister, Betty Wedel and husband, Orville, of Minden; two brothers, Bill Derby and wife, Sharon, of Council Bluffs and Dean Derby and wife, Venie, of Whittier, Calif.

Memorials may be offered to Hospice of San Joaquin, 2609 E. Hammer Lane, Stockton, CA 95210.
