Ronald C. Johnson

AVOCA - Ronald C. Johnson, 85, of Avoca died April 4 at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan.

Mr. Johnson was born in Knox Township in Pottawattamie County and graduated from Avoca High School in 1934. He served from late 1943-1946 with Gen. George Patton's 4th Armored Division, 53rd Armored Infantry Battalion, receiving three Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and other honors.

In early 1946, he helped build and start Avoca Alfalfa Mill, where he was general manager until he retired in 1981.

He was a member of United Church of Avoca, Mt. Nebo Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Tangier Temple, Botna Valley Shrine Club, B.P.O. of Elks, American Legion and Purple Heart Club.

He and his wife, Betty, were married for 61 years.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Lee and wife, Janet, of Mercer Island, Wash., Gary and wife, Patty, of Atlantic, David and wife, Colleen, of Kingdom City, Saudi Arabia and Thomas Camblin and wife, Beverly, of Fraizer Park, Colo.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at United Church of Avoca with a Masonic service held at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. Nancy Ross-Hullinger officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by Avoca American Legion Post 22.

Pauley Knutson Funeral Home in Avoca is in charge of arrangements.
