The funeral for James R. Wray Sr., 78, of Broomfield, Colo., will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Chapel with the Rev. Dwight Oswald of Southview Bible Church officiating.
Mr. Wray died March 8 at home.
He was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Council Bluffs to Clark R. and Theone (Bartholomew) Wray. He moved to Broomfield in 1964. He was a 1943 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. An early childhood love of aircraft led him to the Army Air Corps in World War II and a career as a United Airlines captain. He retired in 1985 after 34 years service. He was a member of the Airline Pilots Association.
Mr. Wray was preceded in death by his wife, Rowena N. (Davis) Wray, on June 10, 1978. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lois Caughey, in 1997.
Survivors include three daughters, Rowena "Libby" Oliver and husband, Walter, of Greeley, Colo., Kathryn Cavanah and husband, Wiley, of Portland, Ore., and Gloria Campbell and husband, Stan, of Greeley; a son, James R. Wray Jr., and wife, Elizabeth, of Brighton, Colo.; three brothers, Basil Wray and wife, Jackie, of Eaton, Colo., Donald Wray and wife, Donna, of Sun City, Ariz., and Phillip Wray and wife, Barbara, of Dallas; three sisters, Annie Hawkes and husband, Brian, of Council Bluffs, Gloria Dahlquist and husband, Rodney, of Omaha and Lorraine Den Herder and husband, Richard, of Omaha; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at Southview Bible Church.
Memorials may be offered to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
