Charles A. Barker

Charles A. Barker, 75, of Council Bluffs died March 14 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

Mr. Barker was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Flint, Mich. to Benjamin and Cletus (Greely) Barker. He graduated from Afton High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. He received his Ph.D. in education administration from the University of Iowa. He was a school administrator for 28 years and retired in 1980. He also owned and operated the Capri Motel in Avoca from 1977-92 when he moved to Council Bluffs.

He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Council Bluffs Kiwanis Club, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and was a volunteer at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

Mr. Barker and his wife, Marilyn J. (McKillip) Barker were married 50 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Craig of Council Bluffs and a daughter, Kristi L. Wilber and husband, Paul, of Kansas City.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Kilby, interim pastor, officiating.

Memorials may be offered to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
