In Memory: A. Reuben Iversen

Funeral for A. Reuben Iversen, 80, of Council Bluffs was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at United Lutheran Church in Shelby with the Rev. Duane Anunson officiating.

Mr. Iversen died July 24 at Indian Hills Nursing Center.

He was born June 2, 1921, in Underwood to Alfred and Asta (Jorgensen) Iversen. He was a 1939 graduate of Underwood High School and attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II where he was a B29 co-pilot who flew 35 missions against Japan.

He purchased a farm north of Minden in 1958. In 1965 he operated a service station in the Shelby area. In 1970, Mr. Iversen founded a tire and battery business from his farm. He was a member of United Lutheran Church in Shelby and a former church council member. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 240 at Shelby, a member of Farm Bureau and a former member of Minden Community Club.

Mr. Iversen was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice, in 1986.

Survivors include his wife, Laura L. (Tiarks); one son, Wesley R. and wife, Patricia, of Mount Prospect, Illinois; two step-sons, Gerald Behrens of Shelby and Kenneth Niesz and wife, Toni, of Fontana, Kansas; one sister, Rhoda Schjodt, and husband, Harold, of Blair, Nebraska; one brother, James, and wife, Marge, of Ames; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family was held Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Cutler Chapel and Saturday 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery with military rtes conducted by American Legion Post No. 240 of Shelby.

Memorials may be offered to United Lutheran Church in Shelby.
