In Memory: Helen Schmidt

The funeral for Helen Sylvia Schmidt, 99, of Cabool, Missouri, formerly of Council Bluffs, was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Council Bluffs.

Mrs. Schmidt died November 19 at Kabol Nursing Home in Cabool.

She was born in Randolph and graduated from Tabor High School.

She graduated from Iowa Normal College (now University of Northern Iowa) and taught fifth grade at Wilson Elementary. She also taught in Lawton, Rockwell City and Treynor and sold real estate for Ned Haves in Council Bluffs.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Council Bluffs, the church's women's club, Order of the Eastern Star and the Business Women's Council.

Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1950.

Survivors include a son, Bill and wife, Donna, of Houston, Missouri; a sister; Ruth Sego of Mount Vernon, Washington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial services was held by Harmony Chapter No. 25 of the Order of the Eastern Star Monday at 7 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-MeyerWoodring Funeral Home in Council Bluffs.

Burial was at Zion Congregational Cemetery in Treynor.

Pauley Funeral Home of Harlan was in charge of arrangements.
