In Memory: Florence Ravlin

Florence (Ryan) Ravlin, 98, died February 16 at Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs.

She was born August 1, 1905 in Underwood to Michael J. Ryan and Mary A. Hannifan. She graduated in 1923 from St. Joseph School in Des Moines and Duchesne College in 1927. She moved to Council Bluffs in 1966.

Mrs. Ravlin was a schoolteacher at Underwood, Glenwood and Walnut Grove School in Council Bluffs, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of St. Columbanus Church in Weston and St. Patrick's Church in Council Bluffs, Catholic Daughters of American and Altar & Rosary Society. She was a Red Cross volunteer for over 30 years and a longtime volunteer at Mercy Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon, in 1980. They were married 45 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Ilene Bittle and her husband Donald of Henderson, Nevada, Kathleen Roberts and her husband Jim of Anchorage, Alaska and Jeannine Evans and her husband Bill of Woodbridge, Virginia; two sons, Terry and his wife Mary Lee of Underwood and Larry and his wife Judy of Council Bluffs; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.

Wake service will be Thursday at 7 p.m. followed by visitation until 8 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Council Bluffs.

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. John O. Bertogli and the Rev. Paul Monahan co-officiating.

Burial will be in St. Columbanus Cemetery in Weston. Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be offered to St. Patrick's and St. Columbanus Churches or Bethany Lutheran Home.
