In Memory: Esther Christiansen

Esther E. Christiansen, 86, of Council Bluffs died June 29 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

She was born in Neola Township and lived in Boomer Township and the Shelby area before moving to Council Bluffs in 1971.

She graduated from Underwood High School in 1932 and attended Iowa Western Community School of Nursing for two years. She was a nurse at Bethany Lutheran Home for 28 years, retiring in 1994, and was a nurse at the Harlan Hospital and Mercy Hospital.

She attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church and was a member of the Shelby Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Christiansen was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, on August 17, 1986.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Peterson, and husband, Ralph, of Sun City, Arizona; three sons, Gene and wife, Karon, of Persia, Gerald and wife, Joy, of Shelby and Gail of Birmingham, Alabama; a sister, Lydia Young, of Council Bluffs; a brother, Henry Ericksen, and wife, Arlene, of Oakland; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A prayer service was held Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home, followed by visitation with the family until 8.

Funeral was held Sunday at 2 p.m. of the funeral home with the Rev. Duane Anunson, pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, officiating.

Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery at Neola in Boomer Township.

Memorials may be offered to Shelby Lutheran Church, Our Savior's Lutheran Church or Bethany Lutheran Home.
