In Memory: Lawrence Kolterman

Lawrence Carl August Kolterman, 95, died April 5, 2000.

He attended school at the Zion Lutheran Grade School in Pierce. He grew up on the farm near Pierce and at the age of 18, he drove 150 miles to Minden, Iowa with three friends to pick corn. They all went to work for farmers around the Minden area and remained in the surrounding area.

Lawrence married Lillian Arp in 1936. In 1986 they celebrated their 50th anniversary. They lived in the Tennant area for 58 years, 54 years in the same house. Lawrence drove the school bus and worked as a janitor for the Tennant Schools. He drove a cattle truck at night and worked -in a gas station during the day, before going to work at the school. He also did painting and shingling of houses for local residents.

He became a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Center in Harlan in January of 1995.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian in 1994; 8 brothers and sisters; Lydia Muehlmier, Herman, Robert, Lee, Edwin, Ella Johnson and 2 infant sisters.

Survivors include three sisters; Wanda and her husband, Lloyd Herbolsheimer of Hader, Nebraska, Emma Kahney of Portland, Oregon and Nora Ward of Boise, Idaho, and 3 sister-in-laws, Martha and her husband, Raymond Petersen of Harlan, Iowa, Darlene Arp of Shelby and Darlene Arp of Carpenter, Wyoming, numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday, April 15 at the Knutson Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Swenson officiating. Burial was in the Minden Cemetery. No. 737.
