In Memory: Mary Lou Watkins

Funeral for Mary Louise Watkins, 83, of Shelby was held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Knutson Funeral Home in Avoca with the Rev. Bryan Sherman officiating.

Mrs. Watkins died April 12 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.

She was born in Shelby and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Shelby Methodist Church and Shelby Federated Women's Club.

She married Ralph H. Watkins in 1939. They moved to their farm south of Shelby and continued living there after Ralph retired in 1976. Ralph and Mary Lou enjoyed traveling and took a number of trips abroad.

Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, on July 26, 1995.

Survivors include a sister, Evelyn Buzzell, of Avoca; and a brother, Dr. Fred Peterson, of Fort Collins, Colorado.

Visitation with the family was held at the funeral home. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery.
