Ruth I. Cowan

Graveside services for Ruth Innes Cowan, 91, of Council Bluffs will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Walnut Hill Cemetery with the Rev. John I. Kilby, interim pastor at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiating.

Mrs. Cowan died Feb. 18 at Northcrest Care Center.

She was born Oct. 16, 1911, in Council Bluffs to Robert Varnham and Helen (Shepard) Innes. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1930 and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. She worked as a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Cowan was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Harton and her husband, Harris Jr., of Knoxville.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Willis of Rome, Ga.; two granddaughters, Molly Willis, a Peace Corps volunteer in Santo Tomas, Nicaragua, and Jennifer Willis, a student at Berry College in Rome; and a cousin, Jack Winslade and wife, Astride, of Omaha.

Memorials may be offered to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 22 Dillman Drive, Council Bluffs, IA 51503.

Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
