In Memory: Elmer Flaharty

Elmer Dan Flaharty, 73, of Persia, died April 19 at the Westmont Care Center in Logan.

He was born April 19, 1927, in Logan to Dan and Addie (Gravette) Flaharty. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He lived in Persia for many years and operated a road grader for Harrison County for 44 years, retiring in 1989. He owned and operated the Flaharty Cafe in Persia for several years.

Mr. Flaharty was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (McIntosh) in 1960.

Survivors include two daughters, Vickie Martens and husband, Arlon, of Council Bluffs and Sue Siebert and husband, Larry, of Green Forest, Arkansas; two sons, Dan and wife, Devra, of Council Bluffs and Ron and wife, Mary Lu, of Persia; two brothers, John of Council Bluffs and Dallas of Sedalia, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family was held Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hennessey-Schumacher Funeral Home in Logan.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. LeRoy Cave officiating. Burial was in the Logan Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Swanger Post No. 314 of Persia.

Burial was followed by a lunch and fellowship at the PIC Hall in Persia.
