In Memory: Bernard "Bunny" Minahan

Bernard Thomas "Bunny" Minahan, 87, of Neola died July 10, 2000 at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs.

Born at Neola on September 22, 1912 to Charles and Florence (Jordan) Minahan, he was a lifelong resident of the community.

He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1930 and was an avid baseball and softball player. He and his wife Ernestine (Ernie) were married April 9, 1940 in Neola.

Bernard was retired from farming and had enjoyed wintering in Sun City, Arizona for many years.

He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick, in 1975.

Survivors include his wife Ernestine; five sons, Mike and his wife Corrine of Neola, Tom and his wife Debra of Neola, Chuck and his wife Sheila of Minden, Dave and his wife Linda of Neola and Terry and his wife Tracy of Shelby; two daughters, Jean Minahan of Des Moines and Jan Sonderland and her husband Gary of Petersburg, North Dakota; and 18 grandchildren.

A wake service was to be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hillside mortuary in Neola, with visitation to follow.

Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Neola with the Rev. Daniel Kirby, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Neola.

Memorials may be offered to St. Patrick's Church or to the Neola Little League.
