In memory: Alma McDermott

Alma Marie McDermott, 83, of Neola died November 6, 2000 at the Indian Hills Nursing Home in Council Bluff's.

She was born in Shelby, Iowa, to Andrew and Ana (Christiansen) Dahl, and graduated from Shelby High School with the Class of 1935. She had lived at Neola for the past 43 years.

Mrs. McDermott worked as assistant librarian at Tri-Center Community Schools until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and Altar and Rosary Society in Neola.

Her husband, Donald J. McDermott, died in 1988. A son, Lyle, died in 1965.

Survivors include three sons, Jerald L. and his wife Caroline of Neola, Dan and his wife Carolyn of Neola, and Jim and his wife Myrna of Council Bluffs; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Fischer and her husband Dean and Mrs. Bonnie Turner, all of Neola; 29 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

A wake service was scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at St. Patrick's Church, with visitation to follow. Funeral Mass was to be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Dan Kirby, pastor, officiating. Burial was to be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Neola.

Memorials may be given to St. Patrick's Church or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Belford-O'Neill Hillside Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
