In Memory: Lila J. Mattis

The funeral for Lila J. Mattis, 87, of Olympia, Washington, was held Saturday at the Chehalis Chapel of Brown. Mortuary with the Rev. Ralph Carr officiating.

Mrs. Mattis died December 5 at Evergreen Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Olympia.

She was born August 16, 1914, in Glenwood to Chris and Pauline (Christofferson) Gobel and grew up in Iowa. She and her husband lived in the Los Angeles area before settling on a farm near Adna, Washington, in 1947. In 1986, they moved to Chehalis, Washington, where she worked as a volunteer at the Chehalis Senior Drop-in Center for 11 years.

She was a member of the Crego Grange.

Mrs. Mattis was preceded in death by her husband, James.

Survivors include two sons, Richard of Federal Way, Washington, and George of Centralia, Washington; a sister, Marie Eyberg of Treynor, four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four step grandchildren; and 17 step great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be offered to the Northwest Kidney Centers Foundation in Seattle or the Washington Elks Therapy Program in Federal Way, Washington.
