In Memory: Walter Wellman

Walter Francis Wellman, 82, of Neola, died Saturday, July 22 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital.

He was born in Neola to Joseph and Mary Wellman.

He was a lifelong resident of Neola and attended Neola rural schools. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Neola.

For many years he owned and operated Wellman Construction Company of Neola. He also farmed.

He was married to his wife, Inez, for 60 years.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Mike Wellman and his wife, Arlyn, of Neola, and Jerry and his wife, Colleen, of Neola; two daughters, Susan Gaudian and husband, Rick, of Neola, and Nancy Johnsen and husband, Steven, of Council Bluffs; one brother, Joseph Wellman and wife, Blanche, of Neola; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane, and a grandson, Dale.

A wake service was held Monday at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Neola. The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's with the Rev. Dan Kirby officiating. Burial was at St. Patrick's cemetery. A luncheon at the church followed the graveside services.

Memorials may be offered to the church or the Neola Fire and Rescue Squad.

Beem-Belford Funeral Home and Hillside Mortuary were in charge of the arrangements.
