In Memory: Norma Coney

Norma Jean (Parr) Coney, 67, was born on July 26, 1932 to Edward and Helen (Dobernecker) Parr in Persia, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in the area, graduating from Persia High School in 1950. She attended business college in Omaha and worked as an executive secretary for St. Paul Insurance and later for 20th Century Fox.

She married Stanley Lee Coney on April 5, 1953. Her husband died in 1992.

The couple lived in Storm Lake, Iowa where she worked as secretary to the vice president of business affairs at Buena Vista College. The couple moved to Sioux Falls in 1982, where she worked at Kalman-Athey. She retired in 1996, then worked part-time for Culligan.

Survivors include a daughter Debra Scarlata and husband Dana of Burbank, California; three sons, Lyle of Woodbury, Minnesota; Mark of Sioux Falls; and Craig (Lisa) of Temecula, California; three grandchildren, Gina Scarlata, Michael Scarlata and Brendon Conig; three sisters, Lois (Mike) Jensen, Minden, Iowa, Jeanette (Levi) Iwensen, Elk Horn, Iowa and Geneva (Gary) Kemmish of Council Bluffs, Iowa and her mother, Helen Parr of Persia.

Her body was cremated and will be buried in California.
