In Memory: Raymond Strong

Funeral for Raymond W. Strong, 96, a resident of Salem Lutheran Home in Elkhorn, was held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church of Avoca with the Rev. Wayne Paulsen officiating.

Mr. Strong died February 1 at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan.

He was born near Oakland and had lived at Peace Haven in Walnut and Avoca. He was a farmer.

Mr. Strong was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Jensen, in 1958 and his second wife, Iris Leslie, in 1993.

Survivors include two daughters, Victorine Jensen and husband, Bob and Beulah Heilig and husband, Bob, all of Avoca; a son, Russell, and wife, Nancy, of Carson; a stepdaughter, Sharon Attanasio, of Shelby; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Claire Walter, of Elkhorn.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Floyd, his sister, Velma, his wives, Bernice and Iris, baby daughter, Virginia Rae, son-in-law, Gus Attanasio, grandson, Billy Wiemann, great grandson, Bryce Swisher, and nephews; Gene Shuster, Bob Shuster, Gerald Strong and Johnnie Jensen.

Visitation with the family was held Friday evening at Knutson Funeral Home in Avoca. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery.
