In Memory: Helen Welter

Funeral Mass for Helen Louise Welter, 61, of Atlantic was held Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, with Monsignor Lawrence Beeson officiating.

Mrs. Welter died of cancer while waiting for a liver transplant on February 29 at her home.

She was born September 12, 1938, in Pisgah and graduated from Pisgah High School in 1956. She and her husband owned and operated various motels in southwest Iowa. She retired in 1996 because of illness. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic.

Mrs. Welter and her husband, Norman, were married February 7, 1959.

Survivors in addition to her husband include a daughter, Pattiey Koontz, and husband, Randy, of Atlantic; six sons, Bill and wife, Lesli, Don and Steve and wife, Shelley, all of Atlantic, David and wife, Darla, of Exira, Tim and wife, Kristin, of Urbandale and Joe and wife, Terri, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her mother, Nina Hildreth, of Missouri Valley; four sisters, Phyllis Peterson of Onawa, Neva Hinkel of Logan, Janece Conery of Argyle and Sandra Tucker of Omaha; seven brothers, Charles of Logan, Warren of Council Bluffs, Anlane and Joe, both of Underwood, Bernard and Royce, both of Pisgah, and Russel of Mondamin; 14 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A rosary was held at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, followed by visitation with the family.

Burial was in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery.
