In Memory: Bernard Johnson
(June 15, 1912 - February 7, 2000)

Bernard E. Johnson, 87, of Underwood died February 7 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.

He was born in Axtell, Nebraska and lived in Council Bluffs for 36 years before moving to Underwood last May.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a truck driver for Bee Line Freight in Omaha for more than 20 years, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and Teamsters local No. 554, and was a charter member of the Eagles Club in Kearney, Nebraska.

Survivors include his wife, Louella M. (Thomas); a stepdaughter, Jean Torneten, and her husband Melvin of Council Bluffs; a sister, Evelyn Findley, of Oklahoma City; two step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; and a niece.

Visitation with the family was to be held Wednesday from 7 to 8 P.M. at Cutler Funeral Home. Funeral will be Thursday at 1 P.M. at the funeral home with the Rev. Tony Paff, pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery with military rites conducted by Rainbow American Legion Post No. 2.

Memorials may be offered to St. John's United Church of Christ.
