In Memory: Gary Richard Albers

Gary Richard Albers, 59, died at his home in Avoca on March 16, 2000.

He was born on October 29, 1940 in Glasgow, Montana, one of four children in the family of Ora and Alda Elsberry Albers. He graduated from Persia High School in 1959.

Gary met Monika Ottinger in Omaha, Nebraska and they were married on June 28, 1968 in Council Bluffs. They were the parents of three children: Bill, Kevin and Tanya. They lived in Persia for several years before moving to Avoca in 1971.

Gary enjoyed fishing and camping and just being in the great outdoors. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture when he had the time.

He farmed for several years in the Persia and Avoca areas; worked for IBP in Council Bluffs; and was currently working for Oakland Foods in Oakland.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Myron. Survivors include his wife, Monika and mother Alda, both of Avoca; three children, Bill and his wife Wanna of San Antonio, Texas, Kevin and his wife Jacki of Hancock, and Tanya of Omaha; a grandson, Jason of San Antonio; two sisters, Janis Schutt of Council Bluffs and Venita Grap of Persia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral ceremonies were held Monday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Avoca with the Rev. Will Bynagte officiating. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.
