In Memory: James M. Schnitker

James Michael Schnitker, 70, of Council Bluffs died September 27 at home.

He was born March 6, 1930, to Garrett and Cecilia (McDonald) Schnitker of Neola. He moved to Council Bluffs in 1951. Mr. Schnitker attended St. Joseph School in Neola and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 18 years and then worked for Council Bluffs Community Schools for 23 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Queen of Apostles Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 10805.

Mr. Schnitker and his wife, Mary C. (Fischer), were married February 6, 1951.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Ellen McLees and husband, Rick, of Wellington, Colorado, Colleen Medearis and husband, Harold, of Council Bluffs and Connie Hamilton and husband, Ed, of Tom Bean, Texas; four sons, Mike and wife, Nanci, and Dave and wife, Joni, both of Council Bluffs, Kevin and wife, Cecilia, of Surprise, Arizona, and Pat of Omaha; three sisters, Florence Cross of Minden, Loretta Fought of North Platte, Nebraska, and Lucille O'Connor and husband, Jerry, of Neola; and 18 grandchildren.

Wake service was held Friday at 7 P.M. followed by visitation until 8:30 P.M. at Queen of the Apostles Church. Funeral Mass was held Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at the church with the Rev. Tom Crowley, pastor, officiating. Concelebrant was Rev. Eugene Fischer.

Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at Queen of the Apostles Social Hall. Beem-Belford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be offered to Queen of the Apostles Church, St. Albert Schools and Methodist-Jennie Edmundson Hospice.
