In Memory: Frank J. Nielsen

Funeral for Frank J. Nielsen, 63, of Paola, Kansas, a former resident of Shawnee Mission, Kansas was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola.

Mr. Nielsen died November 10 at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.

He was born January 22, 1937, in Neola to Franklin Joseph Caligur and Patricia Sweeny. His father died when he was a child and he was later adopted by George C. Nielsen. He grew up and attended school in Council Bluffs. He later moved to the Kansas City area. He worked for Shelton and Alberta Culver and had worked for Mem English Leather Co. in Kansas City for 17 years. He lived in the Shawnee Mission area for several years before moving to Paola. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Paola.

Mr. Nielsen and his wife, Ruth (Spencer) were married August 6, 1960.

Survivors in addition to his wife include four daughters, Catherine Miller of Shawnee, Debora Morrison of Thousand Oaks, California, Andrea Nielsen of Paola and Maria Nielsen, at home in Paola; two sons, Patrick of Hillsdale, Kansas, and Joseph of Shawnee; a sister, Marie Vanderpool, of Omaha; three brothers, George Dale of Merriam, Kansas, Ronald of Kansas City, Kansas, and Kenneth of Denver; and 15 grandchildren.

A rosary was held at Wilson & Son Funeral Home in Wellsville, Kansas, followed by visitation with the family. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery at Lenexa, Kansas.

Memorials may be offered to Eternal Word Network, in care of the funeral home.
