In Memory: Susann Mae Brandes

Susann Mae "Susie" Brandes, 61, of Minden died Monday, November 6, 2000 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha following a short illness.

She was born on November 24, 1938, near Oakland, the oldest of three children in the family .of Henry and Hallene Freeman Engel.

Susie attended school in Underwood, graduating with the Class of 1957.

She married Delmon "Punky" Brandes on November 17, 1957 in Council Bluffs. They were the parents of one daughter, Anne. They made their home in the Minden, Iowa area.

Susie had worked as a bookkeeper for Hansen Oil Company in Underwood, cashier at Burns Brothers and was currently the Minden branch manager for Farmers & Merchants State Bank.

She was a member of the Minden United Church of Christ where she had previously served as church treasurer and was currently the treasurer of the Minden Community Club and secretary of the Minden Cemetery Board of Trustees.

Susie loved being with her grandchildren, Susie and Jamie, and enjoyed going shopping with them. She enjoyed music, animals, nature and history; loved being around people; and liked being involved in community happenings.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, "Punky". She is survived by her daughter Anne and husband Terry Ring of Minden; two granddaughters, Susie of Council Bluffs and Jamie of Minden; her sister Becky Tindall of Omaha; her brother Kent Engel of Roselle, Illinois; two nieces, Meghan and Madysen Tindall of Omaha; other relatives and many friends.

Visitation with the family was held Wednesday evening at the Minden United Church of Christ; funeral ceremonies were held at the church on Thursday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor David Borden officiating. Interment was at the Minden Cemetery.

Knutson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
