In Memory: Alfred Boyd Smith

Alfred Boyd Smith, 89, of Persia died at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs on February 14, 2000.

He was born in Persia on January 31, 1911, to Fred and Esta (Boyd) Smith. He spent his life in Persia, graduating from Persia High School in 1930.

Alfred served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Swanger Post #314.

He owned and operated Al's Barber Shop in Persia for 64 years.

Alfred and his wife Jessie were married 66 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gaylan. Another son, Kenneth Edwin, preceded him in death in 1939.

Graveside services will be held and military rites will be conducted by the Persia American Legion Post on Saturday at the Minden (Iowa) Cemetery. McCurdy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
