In Memory: Herbert Heyde

Funeral for Herbert George Heyde, 85, of Persia was held Monday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Persia with the Rev. John Swenson officiating.

Mr. Heyde died February 17 at the Denison Care Center in benison where he had been a resident since 1998.

He was born on October 23, 1914 on the family farm near Persia to George C. and Mary (Plambeck) Heyde. He graduated from Persia Public High School as valedictorian in 1933.

He served in the U.S. Army with Company A 877th A/B Engineers/Aviation. He worked as a farmer and also worked as Assessor with the ASC Office in Harrison County.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and St. John's Lutheran Church.

On June 1, 1947 he married Alice May (Meyers) Gilliland in Fremont, Nebraska. She preceded him in death in 1987.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Norgaard and Delano Petersen of Denison and Alice Louise Mulder and husband, Richard, of Milford; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family was held at the church. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery in Persia. Hennessey Schumacher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
