Mary A. Lydon Yates

Mary Ann Lydon Yates, 56, of Council Bluffs died Feb. 20 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

She was born Nov. 27, 1946, in Adair to Vince Lydon and Frances McCarthy Lydon. She was a 1964 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. She was transportation coordinator for Lewis Central School, working there for 27 years before retiring in 2002. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Mrs. Yates and her husband, Fred, were married 32 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Vince Lydon.

Survivors in addition to her husband include one daughter, Michelle Goodman, and husband, Mike, of Council Bluffs; one son, Jim, of Council Bluffs; three stepdaughters, Luann Sandberg, Debbie Franks and husband, Fred, and Kimberly Yates, all of Council Bluffs; mother, Frances Lydon, of Council Bluffs; sister, Linda Sluyter, and husband, Ray, of Omaha; brother, John Lydon, and wife, Helen, of Council Bluffs; nine grandchildren.

Wake service will be Sunday at 6 p.m. with VFW Auxiliary to follow and family visitation until 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Queen of the Apostles Church with the Rev. Dan Kirby officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the church.

Memorials may be offered to the Cerebral Palsy Fund.
