In Memory: Gifford Schnepel

Gifford P. Schnepel, 89, died at his home in Minden Sunday, January 9, 2000.

A retired farmer, he had spent his lifetime in the Minden area.

Gifford was a member of the Minden United Church of Christ, where he served on the board for many years.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War 11, he was a member of Minden American Legion Post #437, belonged to the World War II Last Man's Club; and served on the Pottawattamie Veterans Affairs Commission for 13 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Krohn Dau Schnepel, on September 4, 1990.

Survivors include three stepsons, Donald Dau and his wife Lois of Osceola, Merlin Dau and his wife Delores of rural Oakland and Richard Dau and his wife Vivian of rural Oakland; three sisters, Linda Danker of Minden, Mildred Nelson of Harlan and Alpha Haas and her husband Kenneth of Atlantic; thirteen grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

The family received visitors Monday evening at the Minden United Church of Christ.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, January 11 at 2 p.m. at the Minden United Church of Christ with the Rev. David G. Borden officiating. Burial was at the Minden Cemetery with military honors presented by Minden American Legion Post #437.

Memorials may be offered to the Minden United Church of Christ. Meyer Woodring Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
