In Memory: Berniece Midyett

Berniece Marie Midyett, 84, of Avoca died on January 17, 2000 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.

She was born on May 14, 1915 in Minden, Iowa, and was one of three children in the family of Willie and Alma Blumer Schuning.

She attended country school and graduated from Shelby High School in 1932.

Berniece married Chester Midyett in Minden on November 3, 1945. They were the parents of one daughter, Janice.

They lived and farmed in the Shelby Minden area. Berniece spent most of her life working in her home. She was very active in organizing her class reunions and very involved with the activities of her family and grandchildren.

Chester died on February 14, 1988 and Bernice moved to Avoca shortly after his death. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Minden.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice, and her husband Jim Boysen of Shelby; two granddaughters, Angela and her husband Brent Emerick of Storm Lake and Karen of Shelby; one great grandson, Dylan Emerick; a sister, Irene Stender of Omaha; a brother, Kenneth Schuning and his wife Billie of Council Bluffs; a brother in law, Victor Midyett of Stanberry, Missouri; three sisters in law, Arlene and her husband Laurel Murphy of Stanberry, Missouri, Minnie Midyett of Olathe Kansas and Vesper Midyett of Carl Junction Missouri; other relatives and many friends

Funeral ceremonies were held Thursday, January 20, at Knutson Funeral Chapel in Avoca with the Rev. David Borden, pastor of the Minden United Church of Christ, officiating. Interment was at the Minden Cemetery.
