In Memory: Bette L. Christians

Bette Lou Christians, 75, died January 14 at Bethany Lutheran Home where she was a resident.

She was born in Neola. She formerly lived in the Neola and Underwood areas and had lived in Council Bluffs since 1965.

Mrs. Christians retired in 1986 after 23 years service with Iowa School for the Deaf. She worked as a secretary to the assistant superintendent. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church; a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and The Council Bluffs Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, in July of 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Lynne Olsen of Council Bluffs; a son, Thomas A. and wife, Marge, of Underwood; three sisters, Luella M. Johnson and husband, Bernard, of Underwood, Marian L. Ellerbeck and husband, Merele, of Mesa, Arizona, and Hazel Peters of Los Angeles; two brothers Donald R.L. Thomas and wife, Dorothy, of Neola and Stanley L. Thomas and wife, Evelyn, of Metropolis, Illinois; one grandchild and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at Cutler Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip Hanson of Faith Lutheran Church, officiating.

Visitation with the family was held Sunday at the funeral home. Burial was in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Midlands.
